ELECTION 1996

How the survey was done

In an effort to inform Ohio's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community about the candidates and issues facing us this election year, the Gay People's Chronicle teamed up in April with the various Stonewall groups throughout Ohio and Ohioans Against Discrimination (OAD) to distribute a survey to individuals seeking political office this election year.

Stonewall, a political action group, has active organizations in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron and Canton.

OAD was formed in 1994 to monitor legislation and ballot issues in Ohio. Questionnaires were sent to the candidates during the months of April and May, at addresses provided by county boards of elections. Candidates were asked to return the completed questionnaires by June 15 in order to be considered for an endorsement.

In addition to the published endorsements in this issue of the Chronicle, the candidates' responses and past voting records will be made available to newsletters, radio programs and all other media serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community.
